I built my own 4WD Crew cab with cloth and a few options right under $40k. Comparable to a 2.7L Ecoboost F-150 at $10k higher or Silverado LT 5.3L at 8k higher. Probably can get $10k off MSRP the Silverado, so we'll see what the market pricing for the Colorado are.
I expect realistic fuel economy to fall in the 30mpg range for mixed driving for Duramax Colorado vs. 20mpg for the 3.6L or 2.7L Ecoboost F150. 1-2 lower for the Silverado. Pay for itself? Maybe. But the peak torque at 2000rpm really makes the driving experience much better, potentially higher resale value, and longer distance between fill-ups are all harder to quantify values. Besides that, there isn't a vehicle that I've liked driving with the 3.6L. Generally seems tuned to keep engine speed low unless WOT when it wakes up over 3000rpm. I get 16mpg in the crossovers and 19mpg in cars. Blah!
