Got that right! DD lives in Ireland, I would not want to drive the new Ram 3500 DRW over there, roads are narrow and some have ZERO shoulder.
Don't get me wrong they have nice major highways, BUT the secondary roads many are very narrow, some have stone walls at the edge of the road about 8' high.

Another pic of same truck at my apartment building, loaded, ready for 1K round trip to mountain campground, where I tented...no camper yet. This truck, and motorcycles were my only transportation.

Here is a pic of my Courier truck, that I purchased new. As you can see, it was capable of huge loads. Actually had pretty HD suspension and stiff truck tires. The 2300cc engine pulled well too, with 4-speed stick, and low gears I hauled that sled 400 miles to where this pic was taken.

I liked the size of the old Ranger. I had a 03 Ranger edge with the V-6 and manual 5sp transmission. The Courier is a car based truck similar to car based suv's instead of body on frame. Don't know if it will be a successful or not, I think it depends on price. I could see a niche market for people getting groceries or the garden center crowd, parts delevering, young people's first vehicle.

I had a 1994 Ranger for 12 years. It wasn't a compact hybrid truck. The new 2019-20 Ranger replaces that truck.
The Courier isn't in the same league as the Ranger.

I think the price is part of the problem. The other problem with the Ridgeline is it doesn't really do anything well. My wife's kid-mobile is a Pilot and it's been great. I can't think of a single way the Ridgeline would be better in that role, though, while I can think of a ton of disadvantages. Then on the flipside when I compare it to a half-ton, the only thing it really does better is navigate a tight parking lot - a typical pickup is better in every other way. It's the worst of both worlds.

He drove a Nissan Frontier crew cab...

That basically explains it in a nutshell... the Ridgeline is perceived as a non truck.

If you want to do truck stuff, then you buy a truck.

A Body on frame truck

Even if small. I suspect, if the carrier ever made it to the USA it would be about as popular as the Subaru Baja.
