I think that would be a fine choice. The Duramax is a good engine. I do not think it is any better or worse, just different. Basically all of the big three make a good truck and each has their own unique "challenges" depending on the year.
I just prefer the SD the truck is stronger than the GM and more comfortable. Also I'll never own a new one with the def.
I agree the def is a problem. Freightliner had a huge issue with it over the winter up here in the north land. Also, why does your truck shut itself off when you run out of def??? :S the entire def thing is stupid.
