New here. Need help with washing/detailing TT

Hi, new to the forum. Looks like a nice place to learn :)

Bought a 2006 27' Salem TT. This is the first TT (of any kind) that I've ever owned. I got it out this weekend to wash it...it had a few black streaks and just needed an overall washing. I used Simple Green and a small amount of dish detergent. It looked amazing when I finished...until it dried. Now, it is VERY streaky with little to no shine at all due to the white streaks. I'm not sure if the simple green and/or soap dried on it before i got it washed off properly or if it had an adverse reaction to the aluminum. Either way, it looks terrible and I'm wondering if there is some type of solution that I can wash it with now or will I have to polish and wax it to remove the streaks? Problem is it's stored about 45 miles from me so I can'tjust walk out and try things on it. I don't have a polisher kit (and not much time to polish it) so I may have to hire someone to do it for me. Has anyone else had this problem after a wash?
  • I use soft scrub on stubborn black streaks, but still need to wax after you rinse it all down
  • Not sure as to why you would use Simple green since it is a degreaser.

I wouldn't suggest using it unless you are degreasing a engine.

Dish detergent is all I use and lots of water wash small areas at a time basically soap an area then rinse quickly. Do this at cooler times of the day and when not in direct sun. Otherwise you risk having dried detergent.

Water quality can also affect the outcome, if using well water or poorly treated city water you may also get mineral deposits (AKA HARD or non softened water) which show up as a white haze. This can be corrected by washing/rinsing with softened water.
  • Your simple green washed the wax off yout TT. Now it's up to you to put it back on. I suggest you use Me-Quire's cleaner wax. It will clean the paint, and bring it back, unless you killed it. I killed some paint on myprev TT with "Awsome" Even Cleaner wax wouldn't take all the streaks out. But did take out most of them, and fade the rest.
    Next time, Just use soap
  • I would just try to rewash it with a good carwash solution first and rinse it well… but it will most likely need waxed to…
