I've restored dozens of trailers and done this lots of times. Tried everything over the years and the absolute best method I used was a wallpaper scraper from home depot. Made by husky and has a 4 inch blade and a long comfort handle. Choose a day over 60 degrees and park in the sun. No hairdryer needed. blade will slide right under decals and peel them off large chunks at a time without gouging. follow up after decal is removed by spraying decal area with carb cleaner and use the same tool to remove the adhesive. Trick is to spray it on and immediately scrape adhesive. You cant wait. Comes right off like gorilla snot. shake your tool to throw that junk off and keep going. Do not use carb cleaner on aluminum sided campers, it will remove paint.. be careful not to spray any painted areas like slide trim or window casings too. goo gone, wd40, 3m remover, etc. etc. all are way less effective than carb cleaner. tried and tested them all.
