I owned a Ram with the 6.4 in it. My 6.4 got 6.4, ... mpg that is, when towing this trailer with a Jeep in it. :R

It seemed to have respectable power, albeit with several downshifts from the transmission required. But at what a price in fuel consumption. I don't see the enthusiasm for a bigger gas engine from Chrysler. They already had the 8.0 liter V-10, which wasn't all that great. Just my $.02
I wouldn't be too quick to assume that diesel engine performance has hit a wall either. And wasn't it Ford that pledged to be the first to 1000 lbs ft.
