A couple of other rumors/facts: "Crazy Joe's" has closed at its former location near the border and moved into town. "On the River" will be open at the location of the former "Pepe's on the River". Don't know the reason for the name change.

If it's like a lot of areas here in Texas the taxes did not go up... ask any city or county politician... BUT THE PROPERTY VALUES INCREASED...:) No the tax rate did not go up,, but my house value for taxable purposes increased by about 20%. So I now will be paying about 20% more in taxes. It's still the same house and roof and floor as it was last year.. but now it's worth more. Must be becoming an antique. :)

I didn't call it a scam. You are the one who implied it was a scam by saying it sounds like they were playing the OP for a fool. Personally, all I care about is the rate that I pay. If the rate is acceptable when I make my arrangements, that is all that matters. They could have raised it 1000 times that year and if I agreed with the price that doesn't bother me at all. And I never expect what I paid last year to be the price I pay this year. That is really unrealistic, since prices on just about everything rise yearly.

The "Shootout" was not "in" Nuevo Progresso but outside of town. Nuevo Progresso was the nearest town so that was the location used. It actually started in another town and progressed on down the road so to speak. This is all according to news reports.

Just because the park tried to give a justification for raising the rates makes them some kind of scam artists? They have every right to raise the rates to whatever they want and frankly they don't have to tell anyone why. But many people do like to have some background on why rates are rising, and it appears the park is trying to give that information. But as they say, no good deed goes unpunished. I guess in your book the only answer that doesn't "play you for a sucker" would be "because we wanted to".
