It seemed to have respectable power, albeit with several downshifts from the transmission required. But at what a price in fuel consumption. I don't see the enthusiasm for a bigger gas engine from Chrysler. They already had the 8.0 liter V-10, which wasn't all that great. Just my $.02
I wouldn't be too quick to assume that diesel engine performance has hit a wall either. And wasn't it Ford that pledged to be the first to 1000 lbs ft.
Your example is why I think they will leave the rates hp alone and tune for low end torque in the HD truck. You're already at the hp output of the diesel engines . There is just no possible way of actually using it all in the gas trucks because of the speed you would have to run to get to those RPM.
