GM had the 8.1 back in early 2000's. Both GM & Ram if I recall right had problems with their transmissions for the 8.1 and early Cummins. Wasn't till Allison got the bugs worked out to where you really don't hear much about the Ally's failing. Ram offers 2 tranny's, but the Aisin Has proven so far to be quite good.
Ford as most know, came out w/ their new tranny back in '03 when the 6.0 debuted. Called, Torqshift, I haven't seen hardly any folks complaining about it since it was introduced.
Thought I saw where Ford was coming out w/a 7.3 gasser. Still see their V-10's in MH's.
