- Cummins12V98Explorer IIII would not let it bother me since they are not going to have this pump unless the issues were resolved. Yes it has been very quiet for a while with Ford pump stories.

Who says it is a CP4-2, maybe in the Japanese pump GM is using? Chris
No.... it's a Bosch CP4
If so, then it is off my list. I currently own a CP4 that has not given me any trouble.... But I will not purchase another one, knowing what I know now.
In the TFL video it's very obvious it's a CP4 pump.- ksssExplorer

I think it will be interesting to see what the Ram fan boys say about the CP4 pump.
Has the CP4 been a recent problem on the newer trucks? I remember the flurry of issues early on.. but it seems to have quieted down. That's just my impression, nothing more than anecdotal.
Just wondering if they "fixed" it, or if they're still ticking away, waiting to play "Pop goes the Diesel"?
I'm not in the market for at least a few more years, but I'd want to know before I put a chunk of cash down...
I don't know, you don't hear much about it anymore, but I haven't researched it either. The Duramax has been using the Delso since 2017 in the L5P. I believe they started using the CP4 in 2011. GM tended to cover the failures, Ford seemed less inclined which resulted in a lot of attention given to the problem. GM's switch to Delso may be a result of their failures with the pump or maybe Delso is .10 cents cheaper. The point I was making was many people cited the CP4 as a reason not to buy the GM or Ford depending what year was being discussed. With Ram apparently using the CP4, which someone here suggested would happen due to the CP3's inability to pump to high enough specs to gain more power, that is going to cause some guys to perhaps rethink their position on the matter. - DakotaDadExplorer

The one BIGGIE IMHO that sucks is the 32 gallon tank!
the first thing that comes out is the stock tank. I'll put a titan 55 gal replacement in, with 7600# of payload I think I can carry a couple extra gallons of fuel.
back to the drawing board GM
Back to the drawing board for what? I think I would wait and see what the Ram does going up Ike. If the Ram embarrasses GM and Ford, I would be inclined to agree. That has yet to happen on any run I have seen since they started the test, typically the Ram is number 2 or 3, but who knows maybe this is Ram's year. I think it will be interesting to see what the Ram fan boys say about the CP4 pump. Only Idaho has stuck to his guns. I bet there will be a rethinking about what a POS it is, now that Ram is using it. - Cummins12V98Explorer III

Is it that size because the DEF tank takes up some of the room that the old, 36 gal tank occupied?
If so I don't understand why they can't locate it elsewhere - like maybe behind the wheel well.
I would miss my bigger tank.
My 11 HO DRW was 35 gallons. Never heard of 36 although I did get 36 into it several times!
It’s becasus of the DEF tank it’s 32 BUT Titan makes a direct 55 gallon tank. I carry a 5 in my toolbox and have only NEEDED it once. - IdaDExplorerI watched one of the Youtube videos on the new truck and it seemed a lot quieter - less of the diesel clatter which might be good or bad depending on your perspective.
I intend to keep my 2015 for a lot more years, but I admit if I were buying one of these new diesels I would be getting a Duramax. I have zero interest in anything with a CP4 in it. - Grit_dogNavigator II

The 8-speed should be a better fit for the 6.4 gas. Gear spacing, should be a non-issue, even with 3.73 ratio.
Jerry
The biggest downfall, in my mind, was that transmission in the 6.4. Plenty of power in the 6.4, but when towing up hills it would try to hold 4th too long and then eventually slam into 2nd and make the engine scream. Wouldn't even try to use 3rd. I hope this transmission fixes those kinds of issues.
Pretty sure the 8 speed behind the 6.4 will be a variant of the 8HPxx
used for about 10 years now.
Have one in a new car and it is light years ahead of the old 66rfe and should be a great match to the truck 6.4.
