There are times that you can get the Champion 3100 inverter for close to $700. That would work for your AC, and many have given it good reviews. IMO, this is the best quiet generator out there, for the dollars spent.edekgb wrote:
Thank you MFL, I will look into this Champion. Im not sold on this Westinghouse and this is helpful.
I've not seen it that cheap but just because I didn't see it at that price, doesn't mean it didn't exist. I just looked on Cabelas.com and it is on sale right now for $799 with free shipping. Good deal for that gen.
They have the 3100watt Champion on Amazon. Add it to your wish list and check on it every once in a while. It was at $700 recently for a few weeks. It goes up and down, but I've found that anything you want a good deal on, should be added to your Amazon Wish List and then just watch til it drops. - RedRocket204ExplorerHaving a bit too much power is better than not enough... Doh! And I know stating the obvious... :)
But, you bring up a good point about the elevation. I live at just under 8000 ft and my 2000W Champion will not power my small RV Microwave or even my small Kuerig Coffee maker by itself where I live as I tried it where both units were independently plugged directly into the running generator. I know it will not power my 13,500 BTU AC. But 8000 ft is not even that high here in CO.
Just a couple of weeks ago I was at Taylor Park and the low elevation there is around 9300 ft.
Again, wish I would have opted for the 3100W Champion. Now, unless I go the route of selling the 2000W and buy the larger 3100W unit, I will need to get a second 2000W Champion along with the Parallel Operation kit. - edekgbExplorerHi Colorado! We are at and will be camping at pretty high altitude. I want to avoid buying two genes because I bought the wrong one. But I also want to avoid over buying for a 8000btu ac. Im guessing with altitude 2800watt gene is the sweet spot. Is it me or are those hard to find at a good price. And then... I gotta wonder how much im going to be using this big expensive gene just to power 19 ft. trailer air conditioner in the rocky mountains :)

I have the 2000W version and really need a second for AC use... really wished I bought the 3100W version instead. I have been pleased with the 2000W Champion... just need more juice. :) - edekgbExplorer2400 watts not enough to kick on compressor for a sec and then 2100 running watts won't keep it going. I don't think the 8000 btu ac will even stay running at 2100 watts continually. I don't know
- edekgbExplorernoise spec pretty straight forward. Westinghouse 2400 is rated the same as the 2000 in decibels.

- edekgbExplorerI look to use it about 15 times a year for a day or two at a time. I won't be using it daily for extended periods of time. I realize the longevity of the 1 grand Honda but it's hard for me to buy a 1 grand inverter generator for a 10k trailer im gonna use for camping. I don't even know if the 2000watt Honda will start up my AC. Im under the impression that these smaller class inverters won't get my AC started but I don't know and don't want to spend a G trying to find out. This 2400 Westinghouse is advertising 2100/2400 watts and hire amps. ???

Im looking for small and quite and for the price it has an under 60db rating and 43 pounds heavy.
Either you haven't read the WH2400i Spec Sheet or you don't understand what those noise specs mean ... 59dbA at 50% load isn't exactly "quiet". No wonder - that little 79 cc engine would be working it's little heart out powering an inverter surge rated to 2400 watts. :E
