New Tires

I am looking for a new set of tires for my truck but I'm having some difficulty finding what I want. I have 17" rims and I would like tires with at least a 4,000 lb rating. Any suggestions as to where I might find such tires if they exist?

Thanks

Bert

  • Miles Away - I have a Dodge 3500 SRW. I am looking for higher capacity tires to give me a margin of safety and keep me well within legal limits. Since the tire capacity is generally used today to determine if a vehicle is safe or not, having 8,000 lb worth of tire capacity helps ensure that I will never get close to that limit.

Bedlam - After I wrote the first post, I found out that 4,000 lb 17" tires are rare. You can, however, get 4,000 lb tires in 18" and 20". I don't know yet how many there are but Toyo has at least one model.

  • I'm typically 7000-8000 lbs on my rear axle due to the truck camper. Many guys towing heavy pin weight fifth wheels or hauling toys while towing also go to 19.5's.
  • What kind of truck do you have? Does it have duel rear wheels? What are you towing? Why do you think you need 4K tires? I'm thinking you are either looking for something that you don't really need or are looking to overload your truck.
  • I'm not sure what truck you have, but most OEM rims are only rated for 3000-3500 lbs. Putting higher rated tires on them will not increase your capacity. That is why many of us went to 19.5" rims and tires.
