New to Forum from Alaska, not new to TC's..Love'em!

Hello fellow TCer's, we've had a TC for the past 11 years (Fleetwood Elkhorn 9.5) that we sold this past fall. I became interested in the TC forums as we were looking for a new TC. We purchased a 2013 Eagle Cap 1160 and will pick it up in Whitehorse next month. We live in Eagle River AK, have been here since 1999. The TC in our opinion is the only way to go as we tow our UTV, Snowmachines and a boat. The TC allows us to camp in some of the more remote and beautiful locations here in AK. We have future plans of traveling to the lower 48 with the TC in the winter months, but that is still five years down the road. We love fishing, hunting, site seeing and just enjoying the great outdoors. Anyone traveling up this way please feel free to ask any questions, I'll do my best to help out. We have traveled with the TC from the most Northern point to the most southern point of AK. But we still have a lot explore.
  • We have a 2013 Ram 3500 Diesel DRW 4X4. I have used four wheel drive in some sandy spots, but have never had to use a winch. The thing about Alaska is there are not a lot of two-tracks of trails to take with the truck, the trails are geared towards the UTVs. The roads are paved with lots of frost heaves or hard packed gravel.
  • Welcome! We are building our own truck camper and this is a great forum for info and research. We plan to travel to Alaska in a few years and do some exploring. We also will be carrying dirt bikes, snowmachines and a boat (but a sailboat, so really only useful in Anchorage).

I bet you are going to have fun with that 1160. What type of truck are you using? Have you needed 4x4 or a winch often in Alaska?
