New to full time Rv life- Nervous, Grateful, Learning

Hey everyone,

I’m new here and new to full-time RV life. I’m a single dad traveling with my two sons (9 & 11), homeschooling on the road, and figuring this lifestyle out one lesson at a time.

I’ll be honest—I’m excited, but I’m also nervous. This is a leap of faith for us. My goal is simple: give my kids a freer life, more time together, and experiences they’ll remember long after the miles fade.

A little about me: I was wrongfully convicted as a teenager, sent to death row at 16, and later exonerated. Because of that, I don’t take freedom or time lightly. This journey feels like reclaiming both—for myself and for my boys.

I’m here to learn from those who’ve been doing this longer than me. Budgeting on the road, choosing routes and weather wisely, internet setups, and how to avoid rookie mistakes—I’m open to it all. Literally, I know nothing! lol

If you had to give one piece of advice you wish you knew when you started full-timing, what would it be?

And if you’ve traveled with kids, what helped you keep things sane and sustainable?

Thanks for having us. Looking forward to learning from this community.

  • do you alreay have your rv, I imagin you do.  might be better for you to ask a few spicif questions as they come up, Like Grit said, its kinda hard to say anything with no spicific question with out just spewing a bunch of everything

  • Welcome. That’s a pretty broad scope vague question. No one can even begin to answer anything other than throwing out random stuff.
I’d say you have to decide where you’re doing this and what your budget is and what type of RV and experience you’re after to even begin figuring out any specifics.
Im trying to imagine how to even start if I knew “literally nothing.”
Budget , location and type of RV would be the first things imo.
