- APTExplorer3.55 axle with Ford's 6-spd trans offers a first gear equivalent to Ford's prior 4-spd with a 6.0:1 axle ratio! He has plenty of power and gearing to tow 7500 pounds. Payload and receiver to handle 900+ pounds of tongue weight may be a problem. Skip air bags and spend $500 on a quality WDH, Equal-i-zer 4-pt, Reese Straight Line and learn how to adjust it correctly.

You will be at the max tow capacity and payload. Get a good weight distribution and sway control hitch. Gears might help but if you have a 5 or 6 speed transmission you should be fine. Just don't expect big performance towing at the maximum.
According to Truck owners manual, says I can tow trailer of 9500 lbs.- TomG2ExplorerWhat is payload on your pickup? Even better is to weight your truck ready to go camping, people, firewood, etc. Then, subtract that number from your GVWR to determine how much payload you really have. By "trailer package" do you mean that it has the minimum or the maximum that Ford can supply? Big difference in what your pickup is capable of.
- Perrysburg_DodgExplorer3:55 final gear with a 9800# tow rating :h yep have fun with that. Dump the air bags and change the gears to something around 3:90 something IMO. First small grade and you will see.

- Ron3rdExplorer IIIYour F150 does not need air bags. Hitch up and go camping.
- Forget dry. What is the trailer GVWR and does it fit into the truck tow rating. My search says close to 9500.
Is the truck 8200 GVWR with max payload package? - fla-gypsyExplorerSkip is telling you right. You are also about to get schooled on "dry weight", rear gear ratio, payload, and the importance of torque the first time you pull that lead sled. Start saving for a bigger/or more capable truck.
- agesilausExplorer IIINo to air bags and yes to Skip. I had a F150 5.4 2008 before we traded it in for the F350. We had the Reese square bar hitch.
- 301TBSExplorerI chose Timbrins instead of air bags, just another option with no air leaks and still a nice ride.
Even with the weight dist system you use, I found the F150 has a soft rear suspension.
