Your purchase advise is sound. I got good resale on my XL trimmed F250 with 6.0 PSD despite all the negativity here about that engine and Ford in general. This time around I did not buy a Ford, but my 5500 is Tradesman trim. Both trucks are loaded with towing and hauling options that make them useful for me and very salable/desirable when I am ready for a change.
As far as prices: My trucks have doubled in cost for each one I have purchased since the early 80's. I'm on my fourth one now...
