How do you add fluid if a seal leaks down the road. Or if your on a long trip and get a leak. Add me to the list of not comfortable with this as well. I know Toyota builds some good stuff but some do have problems, the Toyota dealer still has a service department.
Lets see if I can get this snipped out.
From my understanding there is a transmission fill port at the transmission used for servicing and has a mini dipstick like you see on lawnmowers.....
That makes sense. So its not a sealed unit. Just difficult for the consumer to check.
Yes every "sealed" trans I've seen still has the dip stick tube just capped off without a dipstick. Aftermarket dip sticks are available and in a pinch you can dump some fluid in to overcome a leak, but somehow the mfgs figured it financially beneficial to them to not let the avg consumer mess with trans fluid level. Guessing but it must have been costing them more in warranty work for suspected user error filling the trans than it is for warranty work due to NOT checking the trans fluid.
Seems dumb to me but I know about a zillion people who wouldn't know what to do with checking their trans if you spelled it out for them!
I've been lazy w the Charger as its in good shape and mostly an around town vehicle but if I hang onto it for the next 100k mi I'll pony up for an aftermarket dipstick likely.
