I don't think anyone was suggesting you should have kept the Eco? I think most would agree an F250 is definitely the way to go for the amount of towing you do. As for the excellent unloaded mileage, well the 6.7 ford was the only modern diesel to beat the Eco under normal driving. It apparently has the best mileage of the diesels. (Cue to cummins fans to flame...)
I'm curious what the statement "couldn't manage it down the road".
Lots of tow tests of the Eco in excess of 7k, never read of a single issue other than lower than expected mileage. And often the mileage still exceeded other gas engines of comparable torque.
