I think you have to remember that people that have a good product will sell it themselves, and when you go to various levels of trade in products, some people are honest and just want a new one, others have tried to sell theirs, but a new rig at the dealer seems better with no responsibility.
Consider the source of your information when you buy. Can you trust the owner? Can you trust the seller that is now selling for the owner? Can you trust the person that took it in trade from the owner? Can you trust the person that bought it at an auction and has it on his car lot and knows nothing about it other than he thinks he can sell it at a profit?
