Now that's funny! :)
But really, for the mileage you're talking about towing I could live with any engine in any vehicle rated to tow (and carry) the weight. If you go diesel you may want to get one old enough not to have a DPF. It doesn't sound like you would routinely drive enough to keep it regenerated.
The relatively low mileage and, more importantly to me, the short distance use is primarily what is keeping me from leaning toward the diesel world.
Is warm up/cool down a real issue?
Does a diesel need to be ran hard like some say?
If everything I read in the forums is true, a typical drive for me would be:
1. Starting truck and letting run in driveway for 5-10 min
2. Flooring it out of the subdivision and less than a mile to work, or 5 miles to the store.
3. Letting it idle for 5-10 min after my less than 5 mile trip.
The thought of that on a regular basis just seems crazy to me. But, if it's not so, and the diesel really would make for towing the 9,0000lbs that much better, then it may be worth it. My guess is between track days and camping, we may use the toy hauler 10 to 12 times a year.
