Newbie Question: 2H or 4A?

I am very new to this world. So, I apologize in advance for any of the simple questions that I may ask.

So what gear is best for general towing? I drive a 4x4 Ford F150 with the V6 Ecoboost

I'd assume you haven't received any replies yet because we're not sure what you mean by "2H or 4A". :h I'll take a guess that you mean 4x2 or 4x4 Auto and if that's the case there's no reason to tow in anything but 4x2 unless road conditions warrant otherwise. My current Silverado has 4x4 Auto but the only time I'd use it is if towing in heavy rain that might otherwise tend to cause aquaplaning, otherwise I always tow in 4x2. That said, you haven't indicated at all what you'd be towing - i.e. size & weight - which would determine whether you could tow in Drive without undue downshifting or whether you'd be better locking the transmission in a lower gear. We'd also need to know what axle ratio your Eco is running as well ... in other words, you haven't provided anywhere near enough information for anyone to say definitively how to best run your F150 when towing.
  • OK, thanks Soundguy. Yes, I did mean 2-wheel vs 4-wheel mode. I have the option of a 4-All or 4-High. So I was referring to the 4-All mode. The spec sheet shows the length at 32'8" and an Unloaded Vehicle Weight of 6,100 lbs. My GVWR is 8,000, so that is maxed out. Good question on the axle ratio (I'll have to look that up for general knowledge).

I'll look into my preference settings.

Thanks to all that replied. I can check this question off the list!
