I have a friend with the 1500HD so know a bit more about it then most. First think I know is to ignore the 1500 part because as you say, the HD is almost exactly like the 2500 non-HD. I also happen to have a Lance 815, so know the weights.
The camper wet and loaded will weight about 2,400 assuming the only option is the roof A/C. May be hard to imagine, but figure about 600 pounds of junk and water will be added. Can dig out my cat scales tickets and give you an exact if you want.
The 1500HD will carry the weight but be at it's max. You can confirm by weighting the truck empty and comparing to your GAWR. One thing for sure, you will be over the GVWR, I was even with a 2004 Dodge 3500.
My friend hauled a Palomino 1200 and towed a 5,800 jeep/trailer combo without using an equalizer hitch. The jeep/trailer had 600 pound tongue weight. It did not over-squat the truck and he never had handling issues including a panic stop when someone pulled out in front of him. We caravanned together and I never saw anything to make me nervous with his rig. The HD version is very stout.
