My truck weighs 7,300 empty. The last time I loaded it, for a four day trip, the total weight was something like 10,600 pounds. Try that on your 1/2 ton.
The 1500 HD is NOT a "1/2 ton".
Anything with a semi-floating rear axle is either a 1/2 ton or a glorified 1/2 ton, aka, not suitable for carrying any hard-sided truck camper.
My Lance 815 overloads a Ram 3500 SRW. I don't care how "HD" your 1500 is--it is not prepared to carry this camper.
It doesn't matter whether it's full-floating, semi-floating, or maximum levitating. It has a 6000 lb. rating, the same rating as my buddy's 2012 2500 HD Duramax/Allison.
The AAM rear axle rating on a 2500HD DA = 10,600#.
This doesn't mean you can't carry a TC...just find the right one. In fact the quadra steer add an interesting element! Should be able to get in to some awesome backwoods sites...
But comparing a 1500HD to a 2500HD is just silly...
Good luck.
