  • I am new to towing a camper but have seasonally camped for 17 years.

The campground where I seasonally camped had a Tote-N-Stor that everyone used!

The campground had not so good gravel roadways. The tote must been used at least 20 - 30 times per week. That tote-N-Stor was replaced once in the 17 years I camped there.

    I've got mine on order.

  • We just got back from 4.5 days out with our KZ hybrid - very small tanks. Our site had electric and water, but not sewer. We managed this time to fill the grey and black tanks with just the two of us. I got a 12 gallon wheely tank at Camping World (Good Sam discount, woo hoo...) and was able to empty the grey tank to let us keep on showering and doing dishes. Great addition to the stash of camper stuff that is quickly growing in my garage. I did not have to empty the black tank, though, as it did not get full until we were getting packed up this morning, so we just used the local facilities until I could make it to the dump. However, the dump was OOO, oh no! The nice folks at the campground let me turn around and go back to an empty full hook up site to take care of business before leaving to come home - they even provided a hose to rinse everything off. Nice folks at Chocorua KOA in NH - highly recommended, especially if you are camping with four legged family members.

Edit: Our tote is grey, not blue. Also, the 12 gallon is small, but larger than the tanks on our small trailer, so I can't over fill accidentally. I would say get the smallest one that is larger than your largest tank. The 12 gallon is small enough that I can lift it wen full and put it in the back of the pickup truck without having to "tow" it to the dump site...so that is convenient on campsites with unimproved roadways.
  • Welcome.

You will find a lot of usefull information hanging-out around here. I do.

Of course you will also get a couple smart-alec remarks and a grumpy old guy or two (sometimes this is ME), comes with the territory.

Remember...opinions are like @$$#^!&$, everyone has one, they all stink. Take the advice for what it is worth, do what you feel is best....ENJOY the time you get to spend camping.

BLUE TOTES----take up a lot of storage space. If we are staying a week or so, I only do full hook-ups. If the trip is a couple days...the onboard tanks are enough, and I dump on the way out.
  • Ok, thanks for reply's ....
I'm sure I'll have a few questions as time goes..

a tote tank is a good idea if you plan on dry camping or boondocking.

since we dry camp nearly all the time, we have a blue tote tank, a 6 gallon water jug, a 400w inverter, 2 deep cycle 12v batteries and a Honda 2000w generator.
all these items enable us to camp without hookups for a number of days.

Also many state and federal campgrounds do not have sewer connections instead they have dump stations. These portable tanks keep from dis connecting from the site to dump before check out.

  • Blue tote: Used for dumping your RV tanks into and then you transport the waste to a dumping station. This way, you do not need to move the camper when the tanks are full. The 4 whee kind tows behind your vehicle. Mine has the discharge slide. Connect the same hose you use for your camper, and put the other end of the hose in the dump station hole. Pull the slide and "let it go!"

They come in various sizes. People buy them based on how much they weigh when full of liquid (some have 2 wheels only, some have no wheels). Some purchase on the size it takes to store them

I purchased mine based on the size of my holding tanks. I got one bigger than my largest holding tank in the camper. That way, it will never overfill if dumping one tank at a time.

  • Portable waste water tanks.
    Come in various sizes.
Can be towed to dump station

Used when not at full hook up site and you don't want to take trailer to dump station.

Due to size of our waste tanks on 5vr I found it was easier to tow 5vr to dump station and get it done vs filling/towing/refilling tote numerous times.

Have a 25 gallon one.....used it 3 times then it just took up room.
For me....just one of those items that wasn't really necessary or beneficial
