That would sure be handy if it was all incorperated in the towing package so all you had to do was plug your trailer in to your tow vehicle & be connected to the factory monitor.
X2
I would pay extra for that feature.
Guess we'll need an eight pin plug. :) - mt1729ExplorerThat would sure be handy if it was all incorperated in the towing package so all you had to do was plug your trailer in to your tow vehicle & be connected to the factory monitor.

What on earth does a backup up camera have to do with your "personal activities"? I'm pretty sure I don't want to know. NOW back to the actual subject. So.. has anybody successfully tied a trailer rear view camera into their newer tow vehicle rear view system?
Thats just what we need...a federal mandate for backup cameras. Right. More government intervention into our daily lives and personal activities. Like we don't have enough already. Goes along the lines of the TPMS. Like I need the government to mandate that the OEM manufactures install this thing on MY vehicle in case I can't figure out how and when to check my tire pressure, as the operator of a motor vehicle. Thanks. - WhatchauptoExplorerThats just what we need...a federal mandate for backup cameras. Right. More government intervention into our daily lives and personal activities. I like what you're saying but have you noticed how some of these newer cars are absolutely FULL of blind spots. Our Fusion is a joy to drive, but a terror to back up. Absolutely no way to see what's going on behind or even off to the sides. We creep backward very slowly relying on the convex side mirrors. Rear view cameras are in the same class as air bags and seat belts. Get used to them. Now if I could just tie into that system with a trailer backup camera...loulou57 wrote:
I would like to see rear cameras on every vehicle built. There is no reason that I know that they could not be mandatory.
No reason except for raising the consumer cost for folks that don't care to have one.
Personally, I'd rather have people looking around when backing instead of staring at the monitor in their dash. It doesn't tell you anything about what the front fenders are swinging in to. I've seen too many drivers let the monitor replace their mirrors and look at nothing else when backing. - Sport45Explorer II

I don't believe there is such an agreed upon "language" yet between aftermarket/RV camera manufacturers.
They are starting to put them in cars and trucks as standard equipment.
It will probably be up to the RV industry and camera manufacturers to make their equipment compatible with factory onboard cameras.
IMO - larry_barnhartExplorerAs posted above just get a back up camera installed. We did and it is in the rear view mirror. Not wanting to have one on the fifth.
chevman - TurnThePageExplorerI added one to my old '97 F150 years ago and also to my trailer. What I was really trying to get at is that if I buy a new truck, it WILL have a backup camera. Why isn't there an easy way to tie my trailer rear view camera into that? Will this be required in that fed mandate?
- gmcsmokeExplorerfed mandate is 2018
