to truly appreciate an author, a painter, an actor etc one should, no must! experience the total body of their work rather than cherry pick what someone even ourselves deems most worthy.
We all have different experiences and will react in our own ways to what we read and see....Eyes wide open rather than eyes wide shut is for me the best approach.
