Yeah...generalities and not absolutes...
It has become or is a world economy and methodology.
Cultures are diluted to even risking lost in the fray. Not for here, but in my
hobby in the study of Cultural Anthropology...found Japan has a growing problem
with their adaptation of Western ways. Cultural infrastructure is eroding and
the aged no longer have the family safety net and public funds depleted at
an alarming rate
No longer will you often hear of an exec committing hari-kari or resigning if
they screw up. They are now, some times, given rewards like we do here in the states
for screwing up (Enron, Wallstreet, Morgan Stanley, etc). This is NOT to say
all Japanese exec's are GREAT...as they have lots and lots of deadwood too...as
all societies do from the bottom all the way to the top
I think this is germane to the topic, as this is how Nissan will break into
the +8K GVWR market sector and with a world class ICE that just about everyone
knowledgeable will know...Cummins
Also, short change the R&D cycle by plugging in a mature component that has
both the IP background and the service world wide (parts and the biggie...folks
who know HOW2 maintain/fix them)
Bottom line is that even if Cummins is well recognized and a GREAT ICE...it
will boil down to the rest of the +8K GVWR truck.
Toyota has been creeping into the +8K GVWR range for a few years. Take the
Tundra's diff gear set. HUGE for a 'half ton'...so why? Me thinks component by
component creeping up...plus gaining loyalty along the way
Why does so many 'think' their Tundra's are 3/4 ton trucks? but that can be
said for Detroit half tons too, but the Tundra's owners seemingly to me, are
way more in numbers... Ditto Sequoia and Armada owners
Don, you are spot on and provide many insider points of view. Thanks
