To keep my comment succinct.... I bought 6 Japanese vehicles brand new, throughout the 2000's, 5 of them Toyota's. That's more than enough to convince me they are no better to Inferior, at least to Ford. (Mind you, in the early 2000's there were arguably quite a lot better).
Honestly, and no brand loyalty here, Dodge has some issues with quality (I've owned 2 dodges), and GM has legacy issues. They just don't want to let go of pushrods and old tooling, and they still feel like "old domestic made" stuff does. (Oh yeah, I've had 2 of those in the last 6 years, 2006&2011, both brand new).
Bottom line, on this old news thread. Nissan has a pretty good shot at making a truck that competes with ANY domestic consumer truck. (And no, I will not use outdated terminology like "1/2 ton", because the Nissan likely won't be one. And neither is much of it's competition.
