Or it could be that Cummins had it ready to go and Nissan only had to plug and play? Why go through all the R&D, EPA testing and God knows what else when you can buy a top notch engine off the self ready to bolt in.
And as it was noted in the other thread, the fact that Fred Diaz was let go by Chrysler and then picked up by Nissan. What better way to get a jab in.
Dodge and Cummins have had a long and great relationship, even with Damn-Lire backing out of that same engine for the Ram back in 07. But then they ended up paying for the design and testing work. So my bet is Nissan got a great deal on that engine, good, no great for them!

According to this, Ram didn't want the engine. Nissan needed one and is going for it.
From Pickuptrukcs.com "Additionally, when asked about the recent Nissan announcement regarding the use of a 5.0-liter V-8 Cummins turbo-diesel (coincidentally made by his former boss), Hegbloom responded that Ram had looked at that engine, but it didn't seem to do what its buyers were looking for: "From all our indications, buyers wanted an engine that performed like a V-8 but gave fuel-economy numbers like a V-6 … our EcoDiesel 3.0-liter V-6 does that." As you might imagine, Cummins has had this engine for a while had not been able to get any of the truck makers interested."
I guess Nissan buyers want something different.
