On the older gen, if you can find a Pro4X or a truck with the optional "big tow" package, you will get the more favorable for towing, 3.36 rear gear. The other trucks will have a tall 2.93 gear.
The only real reliability issues were the very early trucks had some failures of the ring and pinion in the rear diffs. This was traced to a bad batch of gears produced by Dana ( the axle supplier ). Those were warranted, so the chance of one that has bad gears in it, this late in the game is almost nil. Those were in the year 2002-2003 as I recall.
The clear coat on the paint can fail on the older trucks if left out in the sun and not waxed. But my '06 Frontier paint looks as new. Garage kept when not driven and waxed regularly.
That gen of Titan should be dirt cheap to buy. A real bargain, as they were very heavily discounted when new.
