It's an industry thing, not Ram specific. The door has a seal that seals to the fill pipe. No need for anything else.
As an owner and fellow FCA EP I have to call BS on that! I own a 2015 EcoDiesel and find dirt along with water spots inside the fuel door! You do know Ram now offers a cap for our diesels right? It's part # 8221-4609-001 it comes up as a locking fuel cap but it is not. It is a black plastic push on cap with a tether to attaches to the fuel door and say "DIESEL ONLY" on the top.
Why does the Jeep GC have a locking fuel door but the Ram does not? Without a latch on the door it will and does bounce allowing dirt and water to get inside the fuel filler area. Not an issue for the DEF as it has a cap but the fuel tube is wide open and water and dirt will and does get into the fuel tank!
At $53,870 list price for my truck the fact that I have to buy a fuel cap for my truck is ludicrous IMO and almost every other Ram diesel owner I have talked to! This needs to be addressed and those caps Mopar is selling for $23+ should be given to every on of our customers as a sign that we truly do care about them and our products!
