^True statement. I was trying to give the FoMoCo guys some credit and of course Powerstroke and hard starting in the winter subconsciously made me write that.
Should have said Cummins but those don’t need plugged in to start, nor will the fuel gauge go up either, last I tried!
I did plug in the wife’s SRT Charger one night in a hotel parking garage up in Canadia last year. Every parking spot was full except for one EV spot.
So as not to call attention to my illegally (not sure if it’s actually illegal, that would be discrimination against ICE cars since EVs can park in normal spots, but didn’t want to risk it, goofy Canadian laws I might not know about...) parked car, I opened the gas door and stuck the cord in there!
Couple people we knew at the hotel noticed and laughed their butts off. 1 lady who’s kid on the hockey team drove up from Seattle in her Volt. She was p!ssed off of course because her car was “on fumes” or on electrons or whatever it is when your range limited oversize golf cart needs to find a battery store and I had the last spot she could have charged up with.
(Of course she was dumb because she totally could have used the cord, since she knew my car ran on dead dinosaurs, and parked in front of me. We all needed to leave at the same time in the morning anyway).
I just told her # gascarsmatter and shut up!

That is cute that the F350 needs a snuggie at night also.

Guy who lives in a condo and commutes to the Starbucks in his skinny jeans is arguing his car is the bestest with a guy from Wyoming with a 4 horse slant load and a 2 mile commute to his mailbox and a 20 mile drive to "town" who cant figure out why when he plugs in the cord on the front of his F350 at night, the gas gauge doesn't move!

Soooo, the takeaway from blowhards on both sides of the fence is EV's currently make great commuter cars in the city and short road trips as long as you can plug them in at night or every other night and wrap them in a Snuggie in the winter and ICE vehicles are still useful in all conditions?

Am I tracking here? Just making sure I'm not missing out on any common knowledge breakthroughs or if it's just the same people re-hashing the same "stuff."

I can confirm that sales folks don't have many answers. I went in this spring to test drive a Kona. The sales person was able to answer 2 of 17 questions. The Sales Manager answered another 4. The rest, they would "get back to me". That was in June......I'm still waiting for those answers.

One of the questions was does it come with a level one charging cord. The answer was it comes with a level 2. That means I would have to buy a level one--for $400.00. (Called blowing on the profit????)

That is your opinion. The BEV I am considering has a range of 415 kilometers. My opinion is that is enough for me.

The Leaf battery pack, which has had life span problems lasts an average of ten years. There are few of us who keep a car that long.

Very hard to do when there are 68,000 locations. There is one 200 feet from my Condo. The number of charging stations in my tiny city (Regina, SK) has doubled every year for the last three years. But most charging is not done at "stations".

No, not with a properly planned trip. Further, I can cool down or warm up the car before I start to travel. Yes, you can do the same with an ICE, but not all ICE engines "like" being idled for long time periods.

I think most people fly if going even half way across the country. Of course this is RV.net where everyone is in a state of constantly circling the country.

Have you forgotten what list you are on, most people here do not fly when traveling long distance.

I can see having an EV as a local vesicle in an urban area. Otherwise they make little sense, and I'm not sure that they make economic sense then.

All we talk about is the need to go cross country. Most people just need to get to work and back, kids to school, soccer game, grocery store. Why is it so hard to see beyond our personal demographic?

What hogwash. People understand electrics right now. They are expensive. They have very limited range. And who knows how long that battery will last and how much a replacement will cost. Recharging that battery makes traveling cross country a real trial with long waits for the battery to charge assuming you can find a recharging station. And finally having one means going without air conditioning in the summer and heat in the winter.

I think most people fly if going even half way across the country. Of course this is RV.net where everyone is in a state of constantly circling the country.

And this feeds in directly confirming my statement. We could spend half a day getting you up to speed with reality or just have you in a petrol vehicle in 30 minutes.

Tesla showrooms will not have this issue, just the legacy automakers that sell both.
