I seem to be alone here, but I would go for the highest load rated factory f-150. If you are going to use the camper on a lot, get an ARB Air Locker for the rear end and order it in 2WD, with the highest numerical rear end. If TC on seldom, get 4WD. BIG trans oil cooler. Biggest brakes they have. Stable Loads. Anti sway bars. F/R. This light weight set up, generally, has been used for half a century. Use it for a couple years and give us a report. I'm serious. If you like smelling the ozone this will be one fun test. I used to run stock FJ-40's and sundry unprepared Jeeps like this. It is a rush to be close to the edge.
Every negative has been touched on here, but I'm more interested in how it would all work. The nomenclature of F-150 or 2500 doesn't mean as much as it used to. The one huge plus not mentioned is the far superior ride quality of the 1 series vs. the 2 to 5 series trucks.
