Northstar pop-up 850SC

Does anyone own a Northstar 850SC pop truck camper?
What is your experience with this product, reliability and service to you. Have you been pleased with the product?
We are thinking of buying one for our 8ft F350. We got rid of our motor home and want something much smaller for short trips to the north. Thanks....pchev
  • We have a NS 650 and love it. Would love the 850 more because of the cassette toilet. Have had no problems and the customer service is excellent.
  • On my second pop-up TC. First was a Sunlite. Now an 850. So far the only thing I wish was different was the table support. I have a GMC 2500HD and it carries it fine, hardly know it's there.
  • I have an tc800 and have found that the manufacturer is responsive and helpful. They'll tell you where to put a screw or what that weird wire is if you call them or email them. (They are also willing to do some customization if you're ordering from scratch.)

We don't have the cassette toilet or shower setup that the 850 has but the rest is similar. Everything seems to work fine and it's pretty simple and mechanical stuff is accessible.

We did have an issue with the battery charging. The dealer walked us through trouble shooting over the phone because we didn't want to drive it 2 hrs to the shop but eventually we did have to bring it in. The harness plug thingy needed replacing. You'll probably have a closer dealer. :)

The 850sc is really nice. We just needed the bigger dinette more than the indoor toilet. We're classy like that. :P
  • I have an 850SC and have put over 80,000 miles on it since 2008. In another 1 1/2 weeks I will return home after about 15,000 miles on this trip. On all my trips I have been on more than a few rough roads (nowhere as bad as the Great Whazoo's travels) and it has held up very well. In 2010 I returned to the factory as I was headed home and had the Arctic pac installed. Then about two weeks ago I again stopped in Cedar Falls, IA for some repairs necessitated by extremely high winds in California. A phone call to Rex and an email a day before the day I was to arrive and all was set for them to work on the camper. I could not have been treated any better anywhere! I love the cassette toilet but have never used the shower inside. If something were to happen to this camper I would never hesitate to get another NorthStar. Any questions about my experiences do not hesitate to PM me.

  • I will 2nd labmans endorsement. We have a little over two years with our 850SC and couldn't be happier!
