Northstar 850SC on 2015 Ford F-150 truck

The camper dry weight at 1700 is under the 2100 pound payload capacity, but wet and loaded weight with my kayaks and all would be about 2700 pounds. Getting the Ford maximum payload package for $3000 boosts the payload capacity to 2800 pounds. My question is, should I go with the factory installed maximum payload package, or have the Northstar dealer add Tmbren and other devices as needed to give me a safe ride?
  • Thanks for the info everyone. Mike, I assume that you have the Ford maximum payload package. Have you made any modifications to address the payload issue? Also, what cab, bed and drive type is your F-150? thanks!

If you're talking about the Mike that replied immediately previous to your post, he as an F-350 (THREE-fifty), and he's loaded over the truck's GVWR.

He probably didn't need to do anything to the F-350 to handle the load, as he is presumably still well within his axle ratings.

That does not bode well for an F-150 unless you don't plan on towing anything, don't have a large family to haul, and don't have any heavy hobbies that you practice while camped.

Yep, mkirsch is right. The full truck specs are listed in my signature, e.g. "2011 Ford F-350, KR, 6.7L, 4X4, SRW, short bed". Capacity of the bed is listed at 3400 lbs or so. I am within the axle ratings but still over GVWR by a little bit, but that is fully loaded to the maximum capacity including towing a boat. My truck is stock, no modifications.
