Ford chooses to make a point of their position. GM doesn't. Boils down to what each company wants to "Brag about" I guess.
But in the end, to me, it's nice to see 3 mfg of trucks that are pretty much equals. Boils down to what you want.
If only everyone would remember/understand/realize/accept this fact...
Its been this way since about 1968 when Ford dropped the Mercury truck brand but "every" month on this and other forums, folks come on and feel they have to explain that GMs two brands arte basically the same and should be counted as one.
To carry it even further, at numerous times Ford cay claim to be the "best selling" brand of vehicles in total.
Cars and trucks combined.
Of course GM outsells them "if" all their brands are combined, but as a single brand, often Ford is number one in sales.

The Ridgeline doesnt well at all !! :B
Honda stopped making the Ridgeline - so those are just what was left over. They're working on a major redesign for sometime next year. (Also, it's always been a bit of an odd duck as pickups go.)
Personally I agree with those that say you should buy what you like for your own reasons and not worry about what sells the best (but then, I've towed quite happily for 15 years with a minivan, so I don't mind bucking trends). :) - ksssExplorer

I have a buddy that owns nothing but Fords Even though he got hung with the 6.0 problems left him stranded several times, so he traded in for a 6.4 and guess what happened again. He would never own a GM or Ram. Some Ford guys are like that, he thinks that Ford actually cares what he says.
It has always fascinated me the amount of devotion that Ford has created in their fan base. I don't think that GM or Ram could have weathered the fiasco that was the 6.0 and 6.4L engines. I know that the 6.2 and 6.5 were not great engines but compared to what was available by the others they were comparatively not that bad. The 6.0 and 6.4 cant begin to compared to the Duramax and Cummins engines. Yet Ford weathered that storm and Ford guys many who went from the the 6.0 to the 6.4L bought right into the 6.7. Ford still owns the HD market. Many guys having been bitten bad by the those poor engines, came back for more. I think that is the reason Ford is much more difficult with warranty work then GM is reported to be. Ford can afford to piss people off and GM cant. Ford learned over the last 15 years that there is no penalty from their fan base for poor durability, so being very stringent on their warranty approvals likely carries no penalty either. I think they have been right there as well. It is an enviable position if your an OEM. - GBuildersExplorerI have a buddy that owns nothing but Fords Even though he got hung with the 6.0 problems left him stranded several times, so he traded in for a 6.4 and guess what happened again. By my calculations gm total truck sales ytd are 734,253. Fseries is 695,143. This is a win for Ford how?
I love my new Silverado, but do like all of the big 3 trucks. I also like ford and have owned Ford trucks so I'm not brand biased.
They are both doing well and I'm glad for that personally!
Other than not actually reading the OP you are correct. But the OP was very clear when they posted. I am publishing a new self help book on communication. It is titled "Men are from Mars, RV.net members are from Venus"
I read and comprehended the ops post. Thank you. Mine was intended to make the point that Fords claims of the best selling truck are always against Chevy and gmc separately, which to me makes no sense. They are essentially the same truck, but the GMC has some nicer interior pieces and options.
As I said prior, I'm glad both are doing well, I like both, but thank you for the comment.
No problem. I was just taking your question literally and answering it based on the data presented. - ktmrfsExplorer II

If we look a the evolution, Chrysler gets credit for stuffing a diesel in a 3/4 and 1 ton truck and showing people will buy them. For gets credit for recognizing that and getting the original powerstroke in the Fords. GM gets credit for finally stuffing in a transmission more than capable of standing up to the diesel torque with the allison. Didn't take long for Ford and Chyrsler to realize it can be done and they came out with some very good transmissions as well. And I have to give GM credit for realizing the 6.5 detroit diesel really wasn't competative and developing the duramax with Isuzu.
So, now we have 3 very good trucks to choose from. Great!! - LessmoreExplorer II

I always preferred the Chevy over the GMC...comparing apples to apples, only some badging difference and maybe a little more bling for the GMC; the GMC would have cost me more money than the Chevy...at least that was my buying experience in areas where I purchased my Chevy trucks, (WV, TN and NC), from 1975 through 2010..
Is that the difference? I've never really paid too close attention, but I have always thought the GMC's were a little nicer. I thought the GMC line was more of a "work truck" than a "pretty truck". Weird. I will still never understand why they are two separate entities...
Agree with you100%. They use to come off the same assembly lines, but cosmetics were the only difference, everything else is the same. I think they ought to 1 truck and call it a GMC Chevy, or something to that effect.
GMC came about when GM dealers other than Chevy wanted to sell trucks, vans and suburbans. (Olds, Caddy, buick, Pontiac). So along came GMC with the same basic vehicle with different names.
Same thing happened in the Canadian market...both with GM and with Ford.
In Canada, from the '40's up to March,1968 when Mercury truck production ended, there were two full truck lines made by the FoMoCo. Ford and Mercury. The Merc truck was regarded as a bit higher end by many, although other than nameplate, trim differences, etc., I don't think there was much difference, between Ford and Mercury trucks.
In our family we had one of the last of the Mercury pickups. It was a 3/4 ton, 1968 Mercury M 250. It had the 'Mercury' 300 cubic inch inline six and the three on the tree manual transmission.
I drove many a Ford pickup/van with the 300 inch Ford inline six, but I have to say the Mercury six was a more refined engine...silky smooth in fact, compared to the workhorse Ford 300 six. :h :B
I also note, in Canada, that Ford pickups only started to outsell Chevy pickups once the Mercury pickup line was dropped.
However generally GM pickups when both Chevy and GMC are counted together are competitive, or more than competitive in total Canadian market numbers sold. Yep, to this day both GMC and Chevy trucks are still available in Canada.
