My solar panels are mounted to the luggage rack and set up to tilt. I wouldn't be without that capability, personally. Main reason is I often camp in winter in the desert. If I only camped in summer I wouldn't worry about it, but the sun's angle is too low in winter. I measured the difference once when I was out there. With the panels flat, I got just 59% of the amps that I did when tilted.
I typically use 25 to 35 amp hours per day, have a 220ah battery bank (two 6v), and 200 watts of panels on the roof. Plenty of power for me, I never run short.
