The owner's manual and service manual recommend 3500 miles interval with severe use. Since I basically don't use the truck except to pull the 15,000 lb. toyhauler, I consider that severe use. However I stretch it a bit by going 5,000 miles instead.
Probably would be fine, but I would be uncomfortable going 10,000 miles instead. Just me. - Cummins12V98Explorer III

Well, you have to figure the numbers will improve as the engine breaks in so I wouldn't worry about them too much.
This was on my lab report from Blackstone:
"While it's impossible for there to be absolutely no bearing wear in 4,599 miles, it is possible for it to be so low that we can't measure it, and that's what we've got here."
When I had my 12V they said I should run 13k after sampling my 10k oil. It was AMZ/OIL Diesel Marine NON le oil with fleetGuard Stratapore. I just stuck to 10k since it was easy to remember. - fj12ryderExplorer IIIWell, you have to figure the numbers will improve as the engine breaks in so I wouldn't worry about them too much.

Didn't Rotella T-6 reduce the Zinc and Phosphorus levels as well? If so how about the T-4 and T-5?
Problem with most responses here are oils of the past with API CI4 plus and CJ4 oils that had plenty of Zinc and Phosphorous anti wear additives. With the implementation of the current oil API CK4 Chevron (Delo) and ExxonMobil (Delvac) chose to reduce Zinc and Phosphorous levels in order to be in line with the gas engine API SN specification. Having said that I would avoid these two brands for now.
Rotella did not reduce the Zinc and Phosphorus levels in their T6 5W40 and their T4 and T5 engine oils. The reason is they decided to not make them dual rated for diesel and gas engines which IMO was a good decision.- colliehaulerExplorer III

- wilber1Explorer15W40 that meets factory spec. Fleetguard (Cummins) filters.
- amxpressExplorerI run Amsoil 5W40 Signature Series oil and a Donaldson Blue or Amsoil oil filter. I’ve used Amsoil for ove 30 years and I do an oil analysis every other change.
