Old school and older school

This was my first house trailer , when i got it there was no factory furnace, or fridge, water system, or 12v lights, I later changed all the 110v lights to 12v, added fridge, furnace, 12V converter and fresh water tank

Nice! Old school is cool. Older school is even cooler. If I had the time, I'd buy an old Silver Streak TT to restore. Older school RVs have a special charm that you don't get in today's RVs.

Ah, 1971 - no internet, no cell phones, no hand-held calculators, no PCs, no satellite TV, in fact IIRC no nuthin'... I graduated from high school in '71 - that is def. older school (sigh). :( All kids today should be teleported back to '71 to see how we survived! :)

1971. Two years after college graduation, in my 2nd year of Navy duty, and I got married in August of 1971.

Here's a picture of our 14 year old trailer that is still serving us well. Picture is on our return from our winter stay in Texas this year. It will continue to serve as a "summer place" in the future in a beautiful campground in the woods in northern Michigan for many more years. :)

My first RV (in the early 70's) was an Appleby. I sure wish I still had it. (I upgraded from a tent.) It was easy to pull and maneuver. It has lots of screen, so it stayed cool (enough) even in the desert. For stormy weather, there was zipper canvas to cover the screens. I built a center table, and side shelves with fold down doors. It was large enough for caned goods, a Coleman stove and the such. The top of the shelves doubled as bench seats for the table. That left about a three foot "spot" for getting in and out. The front had a canopy. I used a pump sink. I wired the trailer to the car's battery to run a 5" B&W TV, and a clamp on fan. The TV did not take much power, and would last the evening and not run the battery down. A Colman gasoline lantern provided the light and heat. A great set up. It seemed bigger inside than you would expect. I went all over the States with it. Back then it was ok to camp at the rest areas, and I took advantage of that opportunity. I remember one trip across the states and back cost about $300 in gas and camp fees.

The picture of the Appleby reminded me of my first RV, a Cox tent camper. No toilet or black tank, pump sink and a coleman heater for cool mornings. had a lot of fun with it. Then I moved up to a Serro Scotty pull behind. Wish I still had both.

Life was simnpler then.
