- Reddog1Explorer III had three different truck with the extendable bumper as that Ford has. Most of my friends also had the same bumper. We all fabricated our own, but they were available commercially. We all pulled trailers with them usually loaded with some form of Dune buggy, motorcycles and related stuff.
Wayne - FarmerjonExplorerwe still have our 69 f250 360 4speed.
that camper special should have been rated for up to 7500lbs. i notice it has a weght rating stencelled or painted on the side of 7,000 lbs ???
Remember the truck weighed around 4000lbs so they had a payload of 3500 lbs
What struck me about the old truck and camper is the extended dock bumper. That was a very common way to pull a trailer behind your camper. - gboppExplorerVery nice setup, it looks clean and well maintained.
- Camp__Forrest__ExplorerThat's in very nice shape. Looks like the truck has the old retracting bumper.
- DutchmenSportExplorerI bet that truck and that camper will still be on the road when all of our brand new campers have been recycled into aluminum cans and rubber ground turf for playgrounds at schools!
- noxinnhojExplorerthe funny thing is those bed side fasteners have held that cargo on the back of that truck for many years,I still like my frame mounted old school chrome ,ford spring tie downs.
- d3500ramExplorer IIII get a kick out of the fasteners on the side body of the pick-up bed.
- NRALIFRExplorerThat looks like a 1970-ish F250 Camper Special. The little badge on the side between the windshield and the engine hood is the CS insignia if I remember right. That was about as good a TC hauler as you could get at the time. I had one myself. 390 V8, 4 spd, no air conditioning. Bought it from my Dad who towed TT's with it for many years. I never hauled a real TC with it, just a fiberglass shell that I camped in a lot. Sweet truck.
:):) - noxinnhojExplorerI see lots of old t.c,s on the road every day around here as I drive around Richmond for a living,I think I will start taking pictures of them all, change the title of this post to,What old T.C. did you see on the road today..lol,it makes me wonder, were they built better back then if they are still on the road?

It is really neat to see photos of the oldies still on the road!
It is kinda' difficult to tell from the photos... can I assume that truck is at least a 250? Maybe some of you old-Ford aficionados can perhaps provide the tell-tale signs.
Difference being that back in the day a half ton was stronger and could handle what todays 1 ton does. My old dad pulled a case backhoe around on a trailer behind a 78 half ton chevy for years. He had a 6 cylinder 3 speed on the column, And we still have the truck, and it will still pull it!
