Hey Ricochet I may have been exaggerating a bit, but not much.
In Canada cummins equipped 3500's sticker prices range from $80,000 to $92,000 for the Laramie to Longhorn packages.
The 2014 Ram 3500, Laramie, Hemi 6.4, 4.10 rear, with black out appearance package that I just purchased had a sticker price of $70,300.
I had my mind set on buying a Cummins for the last 6 months. I went in to negotiate a deal for the CTD and the lowest they would go for a 2014 was $68,000.
I was surprised how much the dealer dropped from sticker price. Although the $68,000 for the turbo diesel sounded good the salesman made the mistake of telling me the 6.4 was on sale for $54,000 and it had a tow rating of 15,400 lbs.
I offered $52,000 if they threw in matching black side steps and hard locking tonneau.
They said yes. I saved $16,000 plus the 12% tax us Canadians pay on the $16,000. The Side Steps and Tonneau bring the savings to close to $18,000. I decided to finance and leave my investments working for me and i'm sure with the interest I'll save on the loan I'm pretty darn close to $20,000.
Just couldn't walk away from the deal.
But the real question is if I sold my self short on tow power? I thought our family plans were to buy a 37' TT around the 8,500 lbs range. The wife now has her heart set on a Grand Design Reflection 323BHS that has a dry weight of 10,700 and pin weight around 1,900.
On the flats I'm sure it would be fine, but, I live in a valley and every way out of town has mountain passes.
420 hp will handle it with no problem. Matter of fact, as long as you are not scared to let the motor rev, that motor will flatten a mountain. Yes even under load.
Sounds like you have a great truck!
Thanks!
