ib516, and the rest of the 6.4L owners here.
A member in another forum I am in just asked a question about what the 6.4L he has. I told him to post here because you guys would probably have more experience towing RVs than the site we are on.
His truck has 4.10s with a tow rating of just over 15k. He is looking to get a Road Warrior 410 toy hualer that has a dry weight of 13k. Seeing that it is a toy hauler, the final weight might be much more than that. He said he mostly lives in a flat area in Ney York state but some areas that he might go to in Virginia has hills. What do you guy think?
Sounds like a load better suited for a turbo diesel in most situations, but if he sticks to the flats or only tows occasionally it would do. I have towed 14k worth of 41 foot long 5er with mine and it did fine. In the mountains though it would be revving high a lot. During my testing, I got 7 mpg once up to speed pulling 14k. The Cummins that pulled that rv right after on the same stretch of roadway got 11 mpg in the same situation/brief test. Both trucks hit 60 mph towing that rv in about 22 seconds. The Cummins had 3.42 gears and I have 4.10s.
I have a 2 videos on YouTube of that test.
