Lubricants have improved a lot in the last 20 years. Vehicles last much longer, but that is no excuse to neglect them. I like the synthetic lubricants, but do not run them much past 10,000 miles or about a year and a half.
Changing the trans fluid, diffs, and transfer case is how you make a vehicle last. Trans every 30k, the others about every 50-75k.
