I don't much worry about mileage but time and condensation and acid buildup from combustion. I usually change oil in my vehicles in the spring and fall. I have three vehicles to maintain. When I had a sports car that wasn't driven in winter, I'd just change that oil in the spring.
Back in 1980 right after Mobil One came out I bought a new AMC Pacer Wagon. Yes, a Pacer Wagon! After 3K miles break in on the 258 straight 6, I switched to Mobil One and only changed the filter twice a year and topped off the oil. Traded it in 5 years later, ran like a top, burned no oil. New to me 2001 Jeep has the same engine but at 170K miles, probably not wise to shift to synthetic now ;(
