The oil in your diesel will look dirty, but that's not necessarily so. It's very likely it is simply soot held in suspension by your oil. Even if the oil is not old or actually dirty it looks that way. My 2001 Cummins will look black after a couple hundred miles or less. Some get dirty in a hurry, some don't.
I change my oil, Delvac 1300, at around 5,000 miles. I'm easing the mileage up a little at a time because Blackstone Labs says the oil is doing well and I can up my mileage if I desire to do so.
