Actually wear rates increase with fresh oil in the sump until the additive pack can start working.
I changed the oil in my wifes Ford Edge Sport with a 3.7L V6 this past Sunday with ~60k miles and the OLM tells me to change the oil at 10k miles and that's when I drain the sump. The oil is still a golden honey color and I suspect it could go an easy 15k miles and this is with Motorcraft 5W20 Synthetic Blend oil.
