Open Range Slide Out Problem

Please help. My dad is leaving tomorrow for a short trip and his slideout will not go out. He states it just makes a clicking noise...move about 2 inches...then stops. It is the slideout on the right as you are facing the camper. Has the bed in the slideout. Model 216 I think.

Thanks

  • My Electric. slide has a slip clutch that clicks when the side is all the way out, or all the way in. So you know when to stop slide. Could it possibly be that there is an obstruction causing slice to stop. May try this, get two helpers and have someone activate slide while the other two people PUSH on slide, and see if it will go out. If slide does go out, I would bring it in to see if it will close all the way too.
Recently on my slide there was an obstruction that prevented slide stopping about an inch for going all the way out. Once I got obstruction removed slide is working fine now.
  • He can search the Open Range forum and find out how to distinguish the old switches from the new switches. One switch has rounded corners and the other has squared corners but I don't remember which is old and which is new.

If the other slide(s) work try swapping the switches to see if that is the cause. I am having my slide switches replaced by the dealer this week because of the recall. The switch problem, as I understand it, is that the faulty switches do not provide enough power to operate the slide. I haven't had that problem yet, but that was going to be my plan should one of the three switches fail on the road.

It is my understanding that Open Range had a batch of drive gearboxes that were defective and have to be replaced. There is a post somewhere on the Open Range Forum that tells the serial number of the defective gear boxes but I haven't found it yet. If I do I'll post the link.

Go to the forum and search on "gearbox failure" and you'll get a ton of information.

    thanks
