Opinions of Double Bed over Double Bed bunk houses

My boys are rapidly approaching the teenage years and we are looking to upgrade to a bunk house model. Most of the quad bunk houses have relatively small bunks, especially for a near adult size person.

I have found some Double Bed's over Double Bed bunks and they look like they would be super comfy for my two boys.

Does anyone here have one of these and if so how are they working out for you? Also, general opinions on these models.

Here is an example of the floor plan we are looking at.

Shadow Cruiser S-290DBS

Thanks!

  • We also have Jayco 28 DSBH, "like it" has no ac in bunks, not a problem so far, might work on it. One thing is top bunk has a squeaking noise, bad for the guy on the bottom, going to work on that too. Also no place for a rubbish pail, moved water pump back in cab. under sink and cutting shelf to make room for one. When looking at TT at show the Jayco to me was built better, and had a bigger counter top than others with this floor plan. One more thing is units made by Keystone have a rubber sweep on slide out, whereas Jayco does not but uses a soft gasket seal and if wet water stays on roof of slide when its in, not a big problem, dry with towel from in side. The master bed rm is tight but being 6'2" I fit and sleep straight out. I will say after having two Jayco's and one Keystone (Sprinter) went back to a Jayco. Rob
  • We love our Jayco White Hawk 28 DSBH with the double bunks. We seem to have plenty of storage. I also like the fact that the bunks have a 600 lbs weight capacity

The only real issue I have come across on the double or double vs the Quad Bunk Room is storage. There really is very limited storage for the bunk area.

Do you boys ever bring buddies along? If so, and they all sleep in the TT, would they want to double up. That probably would have been an issue for my friends and I at that age.

Our's sleeps 10 easy. As for storage. IF there is only one sleeping in the bunk. There is plenty of room in the bunk for him / her, and their gear. The bunks are really roomy, and yes. Ours has a AC vent over the top bunk
  • love it! The double overs have enough room for two kids on each bunk if they want to bring friends. The top bunk in mine has the duct for AC so it's definitely freezing up there. I noticed in Camping World yesterday they sell the vent cover replacements that have the option to close the vent off. I'll be getting one... The one in there now will let you adjust which direction the air blows but you can't shut it off.

  • We really like our floor plan. I added an A/C ceiling duct for the top bunk. And the Fantastic Fan we added helps with moving the air through the bunks. The double bunks give you a bit more room. We've got bunk windows on the rear and sides of both bunks which also brings in a lot of light to the rear of the camper for a more open feel.
  • Mine has the double over double. And the bathroom has it's own door as well. We love it. The bunks are roomy, and our children, and their spouses sleep there. I would caution. check the weight restriction. Our's has a 300 lb limit on the top bunk.

For us. It is a near perfect floor plan. I would also suggest. Put the one that stays the hottest on top, as there should be a AC vent there to cool them off. No AC vent in the bottom bunk. We use a fan to push air into it.

Also the bathroom door to the outside is great.
  • The bed size is 60 x 74" - which isn't a true queen bed (60x80") if that's ok with you.
