If it's well maintained I wouldn't expect any inherent issues other than normal maint/repairs for the mileage.
Yes they respond well to tuning. Plug n play ftw.
And yes, 06-07 Dmax are like 3rd Gen 5.9 6 speed Dodges and late model 7.3 Fords.
All very desirable combos but no different than any other as far as maint and upkeep go.
