Funny I was thinking the same thing. I asked about the drivetrain and the thread has migrated into the debates of salvage titles. I guess I am attracted to things that others detest maybe that is why I happily owned 3 6.0L's LOL. Looking at a business standpoint I am able to leverage what others don't like to my benefit. Case in point my Excursion I bought low because of the 6.0L reputation and was able to outfit to fit my needs for less than anything comparable and it served me very well. The King Ranch was a salvage title truck that I was able to put back together (dealership did work) and enjoy for almost a 1/3 of its book value then sell it for a 50% profit of what I had in it. So when others dislike, detest, or downright hate I look for the opportunity :-)
In the end it's really to each their own. Some like new some like used, some like Ford some like Chevy, some like modest equipped others like their loaded. The only thing I don't understand is that when people post their ideas on wonderful forums like these when people don't understand or disagree they tend to attack or make statements that instead of supporting their own views (that the OP can compare or understand) attack the OP views which I think is disrespectful. In academia when someone disagrees they are supposed to support their point (or opinion) with facts and where they got the info from. Here people just say things without source info and the reader is left to guess why or how that point was proven.
For those who fly commercially don't ever ask the pilot where the parts from the plane came from. Commercial operators buy yellow tagged (used) parts that are from crashed, not airworthy or older planes they just don't salvage the title. Our mighty Air Force which is the largest in the world keeps huge amounts of older, discarded or out of time aircraft for the same reason and they are charged with protecting the free world LOL
So I don't lose sleep knowing I borrowed parts from one truck and placed on another and had someone with experience and authority to deem the vehicle safe and roadworthy through sound and proven practices and procedures (I do none of the work). In this state rebuilt (prior salvage) vehicles have to go through 2 state mandated inspections. If this one turns out to have any unsafe damage it will be parted out like the second King Ranch was for the 1st one and the leftover frame and body panels will go to a metal recycler so no one will be harmed or life risked :-)

Interested to see how this works out. Reviews of that engine/tranny are positive, but a salvage title would scare me away, regardless of the amount of damage it sustained.
Hopefully you will post some photos of what you end up with and how it works out for you.
Good luck.
